Frequently asked questions by topic
Health and medical
Is Aria a medical device? +
No. Aria is a motivational and informational tool. She does not diagnose, prescribe anything, and in no way replaces a doctor or a smoking cessation specialist. She supports and motivates, as a complement to medical care if needed.
Do you have efficacy results? Any studies? +
Why yes, I have 28 doctoral researchers from MIT, CNRS, Oxford, and the humanities departments at universities in Berlin, Milan, and Shanghai, at my service day and night.
They conducted a 3-year comparative study with a representative sample of the global population, including over 1,000 tobacco-dependent individuals. It cost me my Porsche and my apartment on 5th Avenue!!!
So in my dreams, yes, Aria has proven efficacy, 100% guaranteed by science.
What is the exact role of Pr Dautzenberg? +
Pr Bertrand Dautzenberg, pulmonologist and tobacco addiction specialist, honorary professor at Pitie-Salpetriere (Sorbonne Universite), reviewed the scientific documentation that Aria can use in her responses as a reliable source consistent with the current state of science. He is not the author of the chatbot's responses -- those are always generated by an AI -- but acts as a safeguard to help prevent errors and hallucinations when it comes to scientific facts.
How does Aria handle relapses? +
Aria supports users at every stage, including relapses, which she considers a normal part of the journey toward quitting smoking. She does not judge, does not dramatize, and offers to get back on track together.
Can Aria handle a crisis situation (psychological distress)? +
Aria is not trained for psychological crisis management. This is an acknowledged limitation.
What types of tobacco does Aria cover? +
All of them: manufactured cigarettes, roll-your-own, joints, cigarillos, cigars, snus, heated tobacco (IQOS), e-cigarettes, pipes, hookah. The Tracking module allows you to track each product individually.
Technology and AI
Is there a mobile app? +
The simplest approach was to build a website. If things go well, we'll make an app too.
100% of people who can run an app can also open a website in their browser.
Are Aria's responses equally good in all languages? +
Yes, LLMs are simply excellent at speaking any language.
Which LLM does Aria use? +
Aria uses multiple models (GPT from OpenAI, Gemini from Google, Claude from Anthropic, Mistral...) depending on the task or the period. The choice is not fixed and may evolve based on what's available. The details of the behind-the-scenes engineering must remain confidential.
How does the conversation work? +
It's more complicated than it looks. The chatbot actually has to respond to two different prompts: the system prompt, which defines the core principles of its personality and behavior, and the user prompt.
The system prompt is composed of a fixed part, a second part that depends on context (the current module), a third part that retrieves stored information, and a fourth part that includes user preferences.
On the conversational side alone, Aria therefore uses more complex and richer engineering than a standard dialogue with an AI.
Why not just use ChatGPT directly? +
ChatGPT is a general-purpose conversational engine. Aria adds a personality, a structured journey with modules, persistent memory, validated medical documentation, statistical tracking, and adjustable communication preferences. An LLM alone does none of that.
Are conversations read by humans? +
Conversations are not intended to be read by humans, except under legal obligation. However, to personalize the user experience and improve the scientific knowledge base, the developers reserve the right to access conversation fragments of the type User question, Aria response. Currently, no tool allows the developer to read an entire conversation.
How does Aria's memory work? +
The information exchanged is stored in a user profile (Supabase database). For each conversation, and depending on the module, Aria retrieves the relevant context to tailor her responses. Aria only memorizes what is related to her purpose: helping users quit tobacco.
Can Aria 'hallucinate' like other AIs? +
Yes, like any LLM-based system, Aria can produce inaccuracies. That is precisely why the scientific documentation was reviewed by Pr Dautzenberg, and why the website clearly states that Aria does not replace medical advice.
How is data security handled? +
Customer data is hosted within the European territory (GDPR). Authentication uses Magic Link (passwordless), anti-bot protection via Cloudflare Turnstile, and rate limiting via Redis.
It's worth noting that when it comes to "personal data security," the greatest danger often comes from companies themselves -- predators who build their business model on the cynical and often illegal exploitation of personal data.
In Aria's case, the project's founder is firmly opposed to these predatory strategies, and therefore poses no threat to customer data. Aria users' personal data is neither resold nor used for advertising targeting.
Business and entrepreneurship
What is the business model? +
Freemium. Anonymous access with limited features is free (50 messages/day). Creating an account provides 14 days of full trial. After that, two subscriptions: Chat at 20€/month excl. VAT and Voice at 40€/month excl. VAT.
In the long run, other monetization methods will be implemented: advertising, sponsored articles, and sponsored links.
However, for ethical reasons, Aria will never monetize user data.
Why this price? What justifies 20€/month? +
The cost of designing and managing the project, using conversational AI (LLM tokens), and other IT services (hosting, maintenance, processing...). Taxes too: a French SASU pays the flat tax de 30%...
Who is behind this project? +
Aria is a creation of LuDoMaTiQuE SASU, a French company founded by Ludovic Bablon, a former novelist turned software engineer. LuDoMaTiQuE has specialized since 2025 in AI-integrated software projects (websites, applications, chatbots...)
How many people work on Aria? +
Development is primarily carried out by the founder, assisted by Claude Code (Anthropic's development AI) for the code.
Pr Dautzenberg serves as an occasional advisor for the scientific side.
How many users do you have? +
A little patience, the site has just officially launched and the entire project is run by a single person. Give the baby time to grow up and make lots of friends. Encourage it with a nice article and a hyperlink!
Is the project profitable? +
The project is in its launch phase. The priority is user acquisition and product validation.
How do you differentiate from other anti-smoking apps? +
Honestly, the goal was never to study every possible form of anti-smoking aid, nor to do better than any particular one.
The idea behind Aria is the very obvious observation that people love talking about their problems with LLMs, and that these models excel at maintaining a satisfying relationship with their users.
This conversational intelligence is, by definition, a strong point that other anti-smoking services were not built around, and that Aria places at the core of how it works.
What are your growth objectives? +
Making Aria accessible to as many people as possible, in as many languages as possible. The site is already available in 6 languages (French, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish). The plan is to grow in these markets until enough revenue is generated to delegate routine tasks and replicate this success in new sociocultural spaces.
Are you looking for investors or partnerships? +
Absolutely, and that's the next step! LuDoMaTiQuE will devote the beginning of 2026 to seeking such partnerships, in France and abroad. The prospects seem enormous, particularly with English-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets.
Ethics and society
Isn't it worrying to entrust your smoking cessation to an AI? +
Aria doesn't replace humans, and especially not doctors. She complements the existing options by providing 24/7 access, free to start, with no waiting list. Human tobacco specialists remain irreplaceable for diagnosing and prescribing, but no human offers round-the-clock availability for 20€ a month.
Aria is there when a smoker chooses to come and chat on a Sunday at 11 PM instead of caving in and "having just one little puff."
But nobody is entrusting their cessation to an AI: smokers do the heavy lifting, Aria simply walks alongside them.
Isn't there a risk of becoming dependent on the AI? +
Aria is designed to make users autonomous, not dependent. The modules progressively lead them to build their own strategies. The goal is to no longer need Aria. So we're far from a TikTok-ification of nicotine addiction.
Why does Aria have a face and a personality? +
Because smoking cessation support is above all a human connection. An anonymous and cold chatbot generates less engagement than a warm and identifiable presence. Aria's face creates an emotional bond that fosters commitment to the journey.
How do you avoid dark patterns and manipulation? +
It's a founding principle. Aria rejects any cynical commercial logic, never pushes for purchases, and never creates artificial urgency. The website displays commercial information transparently, but the AI itself remains commercially neutral.
Does Aria collect health data as defined by the GDPR? +
Aria does not collect health data in the strict sense of the GDPR (no diagnosis, no biometric data). She processes self-reported information related to smoking (consumption, goals, progress) within a motivational framework, not a medical one.
Why not use Mistral, for reasons of digital sovereignty? +
I tested conversations with various language models. Mistral offers, like others, strikingly realistic conversation. But since the application uses n8n, and an AI Agent "node" that's supposed to save data with a Supabase "tool" has a bug, Aria can't use that model... It's a real shame because the cause of digital sovereignty is worth defending. Mistral, sort it out with n8n and fix that bug!
Is Aria accessible to people with disabilities? +
For now, moderately so. As soon as the company has a bit more resources, it absolutely will be!
Why did you choose smoking cessation and not another field? +
Because smoking is a major public health issue, causing millions of deaths worldwide each year, and conversational AI lends itself particularly well to this type of daily support.
In the long run, LuDoMaTiQuE could develop other similar applications to help people stop harming themselves through alcohol, drugs, gambling, social media, pornography, etc., just by talking with them.
Personal questions and storytelling
Ludovic, what motivated you to create Aria? +
I was a smoker for 30 years, and both my parents died directly and indirectly because of it. It caused me an incurable emphysema, a pneumothorax, a month of hospitalization, a thoracotomy with talc pleurodesis and electrocoagulation... Smoking severely damaged my health and I tried many times to quit, to no avail. A service like Aria could have helped me find ways to reduce or quit, sooner and faster, and to sustain my willpower.
You were a novelist before becoming a developer. How does that influence Aria? +
I still believe that a story and a character can make an idea more tangible and more appealing. A help offering with no name, no face, no personality would seem far less powerful on a human and emotional level. LLM-type AIs make it possible to create characters that adopt a specific behavior and maintain a realistic relationship with users. Like a novel being written live with people!
Why did you give Aria a female face? +
Aria is built first and foremost on empathy, kindness, listening, gentleness, and respect for others. All values that in Western cultures are associated more with women than with men. Aria is that friend you can tell anything to.
How do you feel about working alone on a project of this scale? +
Excellent question, not to mention my 12 other projects... I hope that some of my projects, by finding success, will allow me to quickly build a team or a network of collaborators, so that I can focus on what I love most: designing innovative projects and managing them as an orchestra conductor. I want to entrust task execution to experts... including communications and interviews :-D
Critical and provocative questions
Can a chatbot really help someone quit smoking? +
Aria doesn't claim to have a miraculous success rate. She offers daily support that is available and accessible. Studies show that regular motivational support significantly increases the chances of quitting, and that committing in writing also boosts motivation. Aria makes this support possible at any hour, without an appointment.
Isn't it dangerous to let an AI give health advice? +
That's exactly why Aria doesn't give medical advice. She motivates, informs (based on documentation reviewed by a tobacco addiction specialist, when it comes to scientific facts), and provides support. The distinction is essential and clearly displayed on the website.
How do you respond to criticism about AI replacing humans? +
Aria doesn't replace anyone. She provides a service accessible to everyone, including those who wouldn't have access to it otherwise: at night, on weekends, for people who don't want to consult a tobacco specialist, or who can't afford or don't want regular human support. It's a complement, not a replacement.
Do you think AI will replace medicine? +
The principle behind LLMs is to generate probable text, and this can be used to automate the dissemination of already established human knowledge. Therefore, I see no downside in automating what humanity already knows how to do, because it frees up time for more creative and fulfilling tasks than repeating the same things all day for decades. So in the long run, if legislation were to evolve to allow AIs to practice medicine -- under the supervision of human experts -- Aria would probably embrace that shift enthusiastically and become an addictology AI.
When it comes to helping people, AI has incomparable qualities: software doesn't feel anger, fear, or hatred, and doesn't protect its ego out of pride... You can program it to show infinite kindness and patience. That makes them formidable therapists, assistants, educators, and more.
What is your legal liability if Aria gives bad advice? +
In principle, the developer has done everything possible to prevent mishaps. In her prompt, Aria has prohibitions against impersonating a doctor or making diagnoses and prescribing treatments. The Terms of Service define a framework and include warnings.
LLM providers also work to prevent issues upstream.
Therefore, the main source of questionable use would be the responsibility of the public, not the company or the software.
